So what are Kingdom solutions?
They are solutions that use the principles that are seen in the bible. The collection of historical narratives, poems and ancient literature that God has been using to teach people for not just centuries but millennia. Quite a number of them have been “borrowed” because they have been discovered to work by people with no connection to the bible or God.
Some businesses have discovered that if they give away a tenth of their profits that their business thrives better than it did before. Strange thing that because one of the kingdom principles is giving and the recommended level of giving is a tenth or a tithe.
Another principle that is seen in both the bible and in business is that if you help others get their needs met then you will be rewarded by getting your needs met. Then there is the tried and tested principle of starting small and close at hand. This is also seen in the advice the disciples were given to start in Jerusalem then go to Samaria and then to the whole world.
Why Kingdom and who is this king?
A kingdom is a place where a king is in charge. It is a place where the principles of the king are put into operation. These principles are not laws in the sense of control. This kingdom is not primarily about control from the outside. It is about encouragement and support on the inside so that you are able to live by those principles.
The most important principle is that everything should be done from the basis of love. A love includes a sober assessment of yourself, but that also means that you recognise that you are so valuable that you should not allow others to hurt you or do things that hurt yourself. Valuable enough to ask for a fair rate of pay for the work that you do. Valuable enough not to stay within an abusive relationship. Valuable enough to eat good food, receive good health care etc.
What flows on from that is that you love other people in the same way as you love yourself. In other words, you don’t do things that hurt other people. So you pay people fairly for the work that they do for you or the products that they create. You don’t do anything that abuses them or harms them in any way. If you are involved in food production or health care your priority is to avoid doing things that will cause anyone any harm both now and in the future. Demonstrate that kind of love and it would deal with a lot of different issues in society wouldn’t it?
Why that picture?
Now do you see why I like that picture. That person has such a big heart of love inside them that no one can miss it. They are on their knees, but they are looking up towards someone or something that they love. Well you were ruled by a king who made it possible for you to live comfortably then you would be grateful wouldn’t you?
The problem is that most of us like doing our own thing and because we go out of that comfort zone we struggle and often feel ashamed of ourselves. It feels OK for a while but then reality hits, and we come down with a bump. The Christian understanding is that God loves people so much that He made a way to deal with the things that separate them from him. No need to be frightened or to feel that they are not good enough just accept the deal that was done to swap places with Jesus.
The good guy was punished so that the bad guy (or gal) did not have to be. That was the reason for the cross. Yes, that blue area in the picture is supposed to be the shadow of the cross. The cross therefore is the ultimate sign of love. (BTW I am not going to preach at you now, but, if you really want to know more ask God to show you and He will make sure that somehow some way you get the answers you are looking for.)
You see this king is so good and kind He allows people to benefit from following some of His principles whether or not they even acknowledge that He exists. In other words, they work whatever your beliefs are. Those who have a good relationship with the king will find it easier to live by his principles. Of course, those who know the king well want others to improve their relationship because they don’t believe their relationship will ever end. They also believe that if people are not in good relationship with God at the end of their lives, their experience of life after death will be very different. That is another story.
